Internet
During the pandemic, the main method of sharing the news is on the internet. People read articles online in order to keep themsleves updated with the situation. Not only did the internet provide world-wide news but also it recorded the decisions Mr. Legault and Mr. Trudeau took concerning the province and country. Personally, I didn't keep up with the news very well because they were often morbid and negative, which made me more stressed out. This is why I, and many other teenagers, turned to another side of the internet. Social media such as Instagram, Facebook and Tik Tok provide the younger population with memes.
Memes
/mēm/
noun , plural noun: memes
1: An idea, behavior, style, or usage that spreads from person to person within a culture. 2: An amusing or interesting item (such as a captioned picture or video) or genre of items that is spread widely online especially through social media. ( src )
Memes have always been prominent in 21rst century culture which comes to no surprise that content about COVID-19 would be made. The memes were all over the internet under many different forms such as pictures and videos. Many teens like myself turned to that content as a form of reassurance and something that allowed us to see the positive and humor in the situation we were living in.
Tik Tok
Tik Tok is an app that has been recently popularized due to its short videos. Creators can post anything they want on it from dances to storytimes, informative videos to memes. I personally found solace in the humorous side of Tik Tok, where short funny videos were posted about the self-isolation situation.
